Highlights of TAP Results - South Carolina

TAP has seen continued growth in South Carolina schools. Since its inception in South Carolina in 2001, TAP has greatly expanded thanks largely to the federal Teacher Incentive Fund (TIF). During the 2006-2007 school year TIF helped support the implementation of 17 schools, and since then, TAP has expanded to 39 schools in the 2007-2008 school year and to 44 schools in 2008-2009.

The teachers within these schools continue to feel the system is significantly beneficial to the multiple aspects affecting student growth within the buildings. For example, in 2008, 93% of South Carolina TAP teachers felt that TAP had a positive effect on teacher collegiality; 91% of teachers believed that TAP had a positive effect on the instructionally focused accountability; and 91% of teachers thought that TAP had a positive effect on their own ongoing-applied professional growth.

The impact of TAP on the effectiveness of teachers in the classroom is evident in their students' academic achievement. The 2008-2009 value-added results for South Carolina TAP schools show positive outcomes with 95% of schools meeting achievement growth targets and 63% exceeding them.
