TAP "Essentials": Key Characteristics of Successful TAP Schools
Based on observations and experience, the National Institute for Excellence in Teaching (NIET) firmly believes that fidelity to the TAP system is central to successful TAP schools.
NIET has found that high-performing TAP schools, regardless of their districts or states, share five key characteristics that have led to sustained opportunities for improved teacher quality and student achievement. They include:
- Establishing the leadership and infrastructure to support TAP schools and hold them accountable;
- Making TAP the core strategy, process and culture for improving instruction;
- Rigorously allotting the time and resources to implement TAP fully and consistently;
- Selecting capable TAP master and mentor teachers; and
- Having principals who communicate and demonstrate full support for TAP to teachers, parents and the community-at-large.
